BLOG ARCHIVEApril 24, 2009 RB Willis McGahee is headed to Hawaii for his first career Pro Bowl. Ravens RB Willis McGahee earned his 1st Pro Bowl after an injury to Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson. McGahee, who was a 2nd alternate, started all 15 games in which he played - missing only the season finale with broken ribs. He led the Ravens with a career-high 294 carries for 1,207 yards (4th in the AFC and 8th in the NFL), with a long of 46, and 7 TDs. McGahee also finished 3rd on the team with 43 receptions for 231 yards and a TD (all career highs). McGahee also led the Ravens with 66 1st-down conversions (56 rushing and 10 receiving), including 7 on 3rd down. "It is an honor and a privilege to be going to the Pro Bowl, especially when your peers have a say in the matter," said McGahee. "It is a goal that I have had for a long time, and I am going to enjoy every second of this. To be going with three other Ravens is also special. They always told me the first Pro Bowl is always the most special. I can't wait to share this with my teammates." January 25, 2009 Hey Ravens Fans, I want to start off by thanking all of you for all the love and support. I am feeling better and will be fine. I know the hit I took has been talked about everywhere, however the important thing is what my Team accomplished this year. We fought hard against a great Pittsburgh squad and had a chance to win the game. I’m really proud of my teammates for showing a lot of heart and not giving up even though we had guys injured. I’ve been resting up at home and watched the Inauguration Ceremony for President Obama with some friends. Living in the DC area, there was so much energy in my neck of the woods with people celebrating everywhere. I felt really proud as an African American to see Obama become our President, and I am so excited for the change that he’s going to bring. I wish I was heading to Tampa with my team to play in the Super Bowl, but we fell just short and will be back next year. Thanks for supporting us throughout the season and for being the best fans in the world. Willis January 16, 2009 Hey Ravens Fans! I'm heading off to Pittsburgh, but I want all of you to check me out on Sporting News Radio on Sunday at 11:25 AM EST/8:25 AM PST as I'll be chatting with Dave Harbison. Go Ravens! January 12, 2009 Hey Friends, For all of you that watched the game on Saturday, let me tell you, it was a real physical battle between us and the Titans with a lot of hard hitting going around. Most of my teammates and I hit the ice tank afterwards, but it was all worth it coming out with the W. I am very excited and proud of my team to be playing in the AFC championship game this Sunday when nobody thought we were even going to make the playoffs. Up next, we’re going up against our rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who we’ve lost to twice already this year with both games coming down to the wire. The game is going to be an all out war! =) This is the closest I’ve come to earning a trip to the Super Bowl, so I’m going to do whatever I can to help my team get there. I’m sure a lot of you listen to Jim Rome Radio, and I just wanted to give a shout out to Rome for having me on his show. I really enjoyed speaking to him, so I hope you all had a chance to listen in. I also got a chance to chat with Trey Wingo on Sportscenter the other night and that was great too. I have to get going to a meeting now, so I’ll check in with you all next week, but till then let’s beat Pittsburgh and punch a ticket to Tampa for the Super Bowl. GO RAVENS!!! Willis January 6, 2009 Hey Guys, Our team just got back from Miami where we earned a tough fought victory over a really good Dolphins team, and now we are now going to play Tennessee. I’m glad that I was able to contribute with big plays. I’m looking forward to our rematch with the Titans this Saturday, since they already beat us earlier this season. On top of that, I got a chance to hang out with some family and friends, who I don't get to see often with the rigorous in-season schedule. I always love coming back home to Miami and having a nice home cooked meal. As for the game this Saturday against Tennessee, we have to stay focused and continue to play really sound football against one of the best teams in the NFL. They're good at home, and yet I know my team will show up with our “A” game. I'm really looking forward to this game. I want to thank all of the people who were kind enough to make a donation to my toy drive last month. You helped make a difference in a kid’s life and show that someone cares about them. Willis January 1, 2009 Hello Everyone, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support. Right now, our team is heading into the AFC playoffs with a lot of momentum, and I am very excited about our chances. We’re going to be playing in Miami, which I’m really looking forward to because it’s my hometown, and I have a lot of friends and family there. The offense is in a groove right now and the defense is playing out of its mind. I’ve scored a touchdown in the last two games, and I’m excited to be apart of all this. Off the field, we just had our 2nd Annual Willis McGahee Toy Drive where we helped over 250 kids during the Christmas holiday. My hope is to inspire these kids and to let them know people care about them and that they can be and do anything they want in life. Be sure to let me know what’s on your mind. Go Ravens! Willis |
